What is a Pulse Survey?
A “pulse” is a regular or rhythmical beating of the heart. We measure our pulse to get an idea of our heart’s health. Pulse surveys operate on the same principle. They are used to describe the health of an organization’s culture by engaging its most important asset — its employees.
How does it work?
By asking one to to five short questions on a weekly, biweekly, or a monthly basis, managers create a feedback system which produces current, actionable data to improve business performance. This valuable data can be visualized and tracked over set periods of time — giving you a real-time updates of your company’s work culture. For example, take the following question:
According to you, what tasks in your day-to-day workflow
take more time than they should?
By asking this question, managers will be able to quickly pin point ways to improve time management and efficiency. By answering, employees will feel informed, engaged, and empowered.
Benefits of implementing Pulse Surveys:
Make engagement a top priority.
Engagement starts at the top. By directly involving managers in building a feedback-driven work culture, your company’s leadership will be well equipped to address employees in an honest, transparent, and constructive way.
Give your employees a voice.
According to a Gallup poll, 54% of American employees are “not engaged in their work and 18% are “actively disengaged”. Employee engagement is quickly turning into the Number 1 issue companies face in attracting top employees. Pulse Surveys give your employees a sense of progress, and reinforce the importance of meaningful feedback and genuine work relationships.
Focus on what matters. Save time.
Pulse Surveys allow employees and managers will focus on analysis and solutions of the problems ahead, rather than the diagnosis. By gathering feedback and updates on a regular basis, managers will spend their 1:1 meetings devising solutions and exploring possibilities, instead of diagnosing the problems.
Attract Millennials
Research suggests that millennials, who make 1/3 of America’s workforce, have an entirely different outlook on employment experience than the baby boomer generation. Like most employees, millennials find traditional semi-annual reviews too infrequent . They want to know that they’ve done a good job, and they want to know now.
